Job Summary

Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (Pre-Op RN) Located in a healthcare setting, this role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients preparing for surgical and procedural interventions. The RN is responsible for performing pre-operative assessments, verifying patient readiness, administering medications and IV therapy, offering patient education, and collaborating with surgical teams to ensure smooth patient transfer to the operating room. This position ensures adherence to safety protocols and promotes efficient patient flow in a fast-paced perioperative environment.

Job Details

• Schedule: Days shift, 10 hours per day, with a minimum of 40 hours per week
• Required Qualifications: Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license; current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS certification as required by facility; strong IV insertion and venipuncture skills; experience caring for pre-operative surgical patients; ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition; strong assessment, communication, organization, and time-management skills; ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced surgical environment.
• Preferred Qualifications: Previous Pre-Operative or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) experience in an acute-care hospital; experience with multiple surgical specialties; familiarity with Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols; experience working with anesthesia and surgical teams; experience with electronic medical record systems.
• Additional Information: The role requires the candidate to perform comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments, review laboratory and diagnostic results, initiate and maintain peripheral IV access, provide patient education regarding procedures and recovery expectations, coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, ensure completion of safety protocols, and maintain accurate documentation. Candidates should be highly organized, clinically confident, and capable of managing multiple patients efficiently.
