Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Day Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months Cardiac Tele RN or PCU RN experience required License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac Tele RN or PCU RN experience; BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: This facility has 457 licensed beds and is a teaching hospital. The facility is a Trauma Level III center and has a Chest Pain Center. It is also designated as a Stroke Center of Excellence and a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The unit consists of 16 private rooms with no negative pressure capability. All patients require telemetry monitoring. Patients are remotely monitored in an off-unit arrhythmia center, but visual capability is available at the nurses' station and hallway to see EKGs. The unit is team-oriented and fast-paced, with up to 6-8 discharges during a day shift. Patient types include CV surgery, heart failure, chest pain, and management of various intravenous medications such as Amiodarone and Nitroglycerin. Nurse-patient ratios are 1:4. Skills required include PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, pleurx drains, and management of various surgical drains. Support staff includes CNAs who assist in providing activities of daily living, mobility, and phlebotomy. Charge nurses may or may not have patient assignments, depending on staffing. Travelers will float within region and scope of practice as needed. Weekend rotation is required every other weekend. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off will be approved up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Schedule cycles are every 6 weeks. Scrub color is navy. The unit emphasizes discharging patients meeting criteria efficiently.
