JOB DESCRIPTION
RN - PCU
- About Facility:
- This is a new unit that will open 2/17/2026
- Will initially open at 50% capacity and grow from there
- Address: Cornelius - 1130 Tree of Life Lane, Cornelius, NC 28031
- 33 Beds
- No Trauma Designation
- Not a Teaching Hospital
- Not a Chest Pain Center
- Not currently Stroke accredited
- Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
- Unit Information:
- Beds: 12
- Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years PCU experience
- Will you accept a first-time traveler? If more than 5 years PCU experience, will accept a first-time traveler. Otherwise, no.
- Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Adults
- Medical based PCU – CHF, COPD, established vents and trachs, GI bleeds, DKA, sepsis, CIWA, patients receiving dialysis, diabetic patients with insulin drips, etc.
- Patient Ratios:
- Required License, National Certification, Certs:
- Skills required:
- General nursing skills – IV starts, wound care/dressing changes/wound vacs/drains, central lines, NG tube insertion, tube feeds, PCA pumps, kangaroo pumps, cardiac rhythm interpretation, etc.
- Must be comfortable performing lab draws
- Drips: must be comfortable titrating Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro, heparin, insulin (with Endotool).
- Could see vented patients but experience not required. MUST be willing to be taught here though. The same goes for Precedex drips.
- EPIC experience required
- Support within the Department:
- 3 CNAs, 1 performing HUC duties
- Charge nurse – yes, free floating
- No phlebotomy
- IV/VAT: no
- Wound Care RN: no
- RT 24/7
- Hospitalist 24/7 – on call at night
- Intensivist 24/7 – not available at night
- Anesthesia available 24/7 and can assist with intubations
- No tele tech, must be comfortable monitoring own patients. Monitors available in each room
- Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC – required
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Omnicell
- Floating:
- Travelers will be first to float. Could float within scope of practice and below. 1:4 ratio if floating to MedSurg here.
- Will be required to float per Region needs – Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, any Freestanding ED within Region, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH)
- If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)
- Orientation (facility and unit):
- NEO
- 1-2 shifts on the unit, depending on comfort level
- Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week schedule, could be more though if needed by the department.
- On call? No
- Holiday Expectations: 75% of holidays in contract
- Approval of RTO: can approve up to 7 days, manager approval for more or surrounding holidays
- Shift times: 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
- Schedule cycle: 6-week schedule, self-scheduling with manager approval.
