Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS and ACLS Must-Have: - Strong nursing skills in acute care and time management. - Experience in neuro stepdown is preferred. - Strong critical thinking skills. Description: This position is in a 30-bed unit, with 22 acute care and 8 stepdown beds. The patient ratios are 6:1 on acute care and 4:1 on neuro stepdown. The staffing includes 1 RN Charge overseeing the entire unit, 1-2 Techs, and a unit secretary. The equipment available includes vital sign machines, high-flow oxygen, chest tubes, suction devices, and various drips. For the neuro stepdown, equipment consists of Vapotherm, Bipap, trachs, and titrating cardiac drips. The documentation system used is Meditech. Weekend shifts are required, with experienced nurses eligible to float after orientation. Patient experience practices include bedside shift report, personal connection, and daily huddles. Certifications required include BLS for acute care and both BLS and ACLS for neuro stepdown. The dress code allows for black, any shade of blue or gray, and any color scrubs on designated days. Common procedures performed on the unit include lumbar punctures and chest tube placements. This unit is an excellent starting point for those interested in moving to ICU. Recognition programs such as ICARE, shout out boards, and employee of the month are available.
