Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: 18 months PCU experience required License: Current state RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: 18 months PCU experience required BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Description: The facility has 457 licensed beds. It operates as a Trauma Level III hospital. This is a teaching hospital with multiple centers of excellence. The Progressive Care Unit has 213 beds. The unit is currently in the process of adding an additional bed. Patient types include HPB patients, women’s surgery, and various plastic surgeries. Common diagnoses feature Whipple procedures, liver resections, distal pancreas/spleen procedures, pancreatitis, hysterectomies, and breast reconstruction. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-6. Nursing support includes CNAs and charge nurses. CNA duties encompass blood draws, foley insertion/removal, and standard patient care as assigned. Charge nurses assist with patient care, medication passes, and admissions. Available consult services include IV/VAT teams and resource nurses available for mentorship. Telemetry monitoring technology is utilized on the unit. The electronic medical record system in use is Epic. Required skills include drain care, central line management, G/J tube management, heparin drip management, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and NGT placement/management. Floating within the region may be required based on needs. Travelers will be compensated for time spent traveling between facilities if floating mid-shift. Weekend rotations occur every other week. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be accommodated up to 6 days, excluding holidays. Unit culture is characterized by strong teamwork among staff.
