Job Title: RN - PCU Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12hr Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 2 years required License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required; Medical-Surgical certification preferred Must-Have: Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills. IV insertion and care, central line management. Wound care and post-operative monitoring. Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation. Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams. Discharge planning and patient education, particularly on renal and fluid management. Description: The position is for a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit. The facility has 637 licensed beds and holds a Level 1 Trauma Designation. It is a teaching hospital that is also designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center. The Progressive Care Unit contains 24 beds with a patient census of 24. Common patient diagnoses include cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients, both pre-operative and post-operative. Secondary patient populations include those with cardiology, pulmonology, and general medical/surgical needs. Patients may also include those with acute or chronic diseases and common co-morbidities such as diabetes and hypertension. Patient ratios are generally RN: 1:4-6 and LPN: 1:4-6. A CNA assists with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating, and transporting patients. There is a designated charge nurse and resource nurse available within the unit. The team supports patient care 24/7, ensuring continuous care from hospitalists and intensivists. Telemetry monitoring is centralized within the unit. The equipment used includes EMR and specific monitoring devices. The unit culture promotes teamwork in a busy environment. Weekend rotation requires 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 on a 6-week schedule. Holiday expectations require working one shift of each major holiday.
