Description:
This position involves providing care in a Stepdown Unit.
The unit has a total of 24-25 beds.
Patient populations may include those recovering from CABG, Lung surgery, PCI, AICD placement, and TAVR.
Other medical conditions include respiratory failure, CVA, DKA, sepsis, post-surgery care, and alcohol withdrawal.
Patient ratios are typically 1:3-4.
Travelers will be assigned to specific home units during orientation.
Travelers with no experience with cardiac stepdown patients may be limited to medical stepdown assignments.
The traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival.
General PCU skillset includes titrating cardiac drips, insulin drips, and managing vasopressors.
Additional skills may involve managing drains, tubes, and wound care.
Management of venous sheaths and temporary pacemakers is preferred.
Support on the unit includes CNA staffing, unit secretary, and charge nurse assistance.
Resources such as hospitalists and respiratory therapists are available 24/7.
The charting system used is Meditech Expanse, and IV pumps are Alaris.
Travelers will work on a rotating schedule with every other weekend required.
Working 4 days one week and 3 days the next is mandatory.
Time off requests are limited to one weekend per contract with a maximum of 7 days.
Two out of three major holidays will be worked during the contract term.
Scrub color is pewter, and t-shirts must be gray, white, or black with an appropriate monogram.
Jackets may be gray or black, and badges must be worn in full view at all times.
