Job Title: RN General Medicine PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (06:45 - 19:15) Experience: Minimum 1 year in PCU License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ventilator care experience Epic charting experience Description: The RN will work in a Progressive Care Unit. The shift is three 12-hour days per week, from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM. Charting is completed using the Epic system. Weekend requirements may include every other weekend or six shifts in a six-week scheduling block. The facility reserves the right to call off one shift every two weeks. RNs are required to work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract. The ideal candidate will have experience with cardiac monitoring and emergency response. The RN will manage IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care. Medication administration includes cardiac drips, but titration is not required. Experience in respiratory support, including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management, is essential. The RN will activate Rapid Response and Code teams as needed. Knowledge of isolation precautions and telemetry settings across relevant units is required. The unit typically maintains a patient ratio of 1:5, with a goal of 1:4. It consists of a hybrid environment with both Progressive Care and Intensive Care beds. Common patient diagnoses include DKA, COPD, sepsis, suicidal ideation, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure. Remote telemetry is utilized, with a tele sitting program in place to support patient care. Floating within the skillset may be required as necessitated by the needs of the facility. Interdisciplinary support includes various clinical services for comprehensive care. This role is suited for experienced travelers, as first-time travelers may find it challenging.
