Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stroke Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in acute care License: Registered Nurse license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH required Must-Have: Travelers must be separated for 1 year if previously a permanent staff member. First-time travelers must have 2 years of permanent staff RN experience in acute care. Description: This position involves caring for patients with CVA/TIA in need of TPA administration, spinal surgical ACDF, and laminectomy. You will also manage stepdown unit overflow cases, including AFIB/RVR, DKA, HTN, COPD, ARF, and post-heart catheterization patients. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, with a CNA ratio of 1:9. Required skills include managing titratable gtts such as Cardene, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Neo, and Levophed. Experience with chest tube management, trach care, peritoneal dialysis, ISTAT, and CSF lumbar drains is preferred. Travelers must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance prior to arrival. Support on the unit includes a charge nurse who may have a patient assignment, on-site phlebotomy, and an IV/VAT team available during the day. Respiratory therapists are available in-house, along with hospitalists. Telemetry monitoring includes cardiac monitors in each patient room connected to a central station, with remote monitoring as a backup. Nurses are responsible for main monitoring and printing strips for each patient per shift. The charting system used is EMR: Meditech Expanse, and IV pumps are Alaris with medication dispensing done via Pyxis. Travelers may float to stepdown and MedSurg units with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6. Scheduling requires a weekend rotation every other week. Nurses will work four days one week and three days the next, following a mandatory night shift schedule. A time off request of up to 7 days is permitted, with an extension of 1 week for every full week requested off. Only one weekend off can be requested per 13-week contract. Nurses will work 2 out of every 3 holidays. Scrub color will be pewter, with approved t-shirt colors being gray, white, or black, featuring a specific monogram. Jackets must be gray or black, and badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times. The culture on the unit is traveler-friendly.
