Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Services Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Third Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: No experience required. License: Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state. Certifications: BLS Must-Have: - Accepts responsibility for words, actions, attitude, and results while meeting deadlines and performance expectations. - Practices effective, clear, and respectful communications (both verbal and written) and demonstrates attentiveness through active listening and engaged body language. - Collaborates, respects, and cooperates with all coworkers, valuing differences and addressing concerns directly, while actively contributing to the vision and results of the team. - Warmly, personally, and professionally greets all internal and external customers, promoting a high level of satisfaction by providing information about what to expect, actively listening, and intentionally following up on questions and concerns. - Shows an understanding and knowledge of computer systems and applications and/or ability to be trained. - Ability to communicate/collaborate with other care team members. - Ability to assess age-specific patient safety issues and implement appropriate safety devices for all patients. Description: The RN implements professional nursing practice centered on the patient as a whole person and the creation of a caring environment focused on healing and wellness. Nursing practices are based on evidence, current research, hospital policies, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. Clinical decision-making incorporates all four phases of the nursing process, critical thinking, and creativity. Nursing excellence is promoted through helping relationships among nursing staff and across other disciplines. Coordinates, ensures, and provides direct patient care activities on the unit through provision of nursing rounds, assessments, and treatments. Facilitates admission, transfer, and discharge activities. Provides patient and family-centered education, care coordination, and individualized treatment planning as applicable. Responsibilities include: - Performing and documenting comprehensive assessments in accordance with RN’s scope of practice and hospital policies and procedures. - Considering the patient’s culture, age, and developmental level. - Identifying patient risk factors and presenting complaints. - Obtaining patient health information from family or others as necessary. - Collecting objective and subjective data. - Verifying initial admission assessments as needed. - Developing a problem list and prioritizing patient needs based on input from the inter-professional team. - Designing actions and interventions relevant to the patient’s culture and age. - Determining desired outcomes in coordination with the patient and family in accordance with the medical plan of care. - Fully implementing patient care therapies and procedures within scope of practice in accordance with established policies and professional guidelines. - Explaining procedures, treatments, and processes to the patient and family. - Initiating actions to alleviate patient stress and discomfort. - Recognizing, responding to, and communicating changes in patient condition appropriately. - Conducting and documenting ongoing assessments and response to procedures and therapies. - Delegating tasks appropriately and overseeing team members in patient care activities. - Monitoring accuracy and completeness of delegated patient care provided by team members. - Identifying and addressing educational needs of patients related to prioritized problems. - Facilitating the patient discharge process by executing discharge orders timely. - Providing input into patient/nurse assignments based on available staffing and patient acuity. - Actively participating in unit-based activities in support of organizational values and priorities. - Promoting a positive group dynamic and healing environment. - Assuring nursing excellence in accordance with accepted standards and evidence-based practice. - Participating in quality improvement activities and core measures such as patient satisfaction and patient falls. - Using a holistic perspective regarding patient care.
