Job Title: RN II-SDU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Step Down Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (1900 - 0730) Experience: Minimum of 6 months of cardiac step-down or telemetry experience in the last 2 years preferred. License: Current Registered Nurse license in state of practice required. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor required. NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required within 6 months of hire. Must-Have: Education: Associate Degree or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia Course preferred. Completion of Critical Care Course preferred. Description: Responsible for the planning and provision of nursing care to patients in the step down unit. Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life-threatening emergencies. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel based on their scope of practice. Provides appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Demonstrates competency in routine nursing skills including medication administration and intravenous therapy. Understands and follows chain of command per policy. Verifies alarm settings with Monitor Technician according to policy. Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application, making recommendations for best monitoring practices. Manages care and has skills in the treatment of patients post coronary interventions requiring femoral sheath removal. Exhibits appropriate clinical judgment in managing cardiac step-down and telemetry patients. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan in collaboration with healthcare team members. Documents education provided to patients and families using suitable teaching methods. Delegates patient care tasks based on competency and scope of practice. Monitors the effectiveness of care provided. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care administered. Consistently performs necessary safety and quality control checks. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care, services, and unit operations. Embraces new approaches to problem-solving and is open to change. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. The role requires compliance with vaccination policies as a condition of employment.
