Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in PCU License: Must be active prior to start date Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - PCU experience - Ability to float to an inpatient unit - Comfortable with team nursing and delegation Description: This position is for a float registered nurse in an acuity adaptable unit. Patients range from medical-surgical level of care to progressive care and ICU level. Ratios can vary from 1:4 to 1:6 based on patient acuity and type. This is a boarding unit where patients are admitted from the emergency department. Patients are stable and will be managed until they can be discharged or moved to a different inpatient unit. The unit consists of 4 beds but can be adjusted to accommodate up to 10 beds as needed. Staffing may include combinations of nurses, CNAs, and LPNs depending on patient ratios. Team nursing is utilized, and the registered nurse must be comfortable working with LPNs. The unit operates under high-paced conditions with fluctuating patient ratios. Registered nurses can be asked to take on higher ratios during peak times. Nurses need to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with constant admissions and discharges. This role requires strong critical thinking and adaptability to changing clinical situations. Candidates must have experience with Cerner charting systems. Regular responsibilities include monitoring vitals, administering medications, and providing patient education. Working every other weekend is mandatory. The registered nurse must work 2 out of 3 major holidays. Flexibility is essential, as float assignments to other units may be required based on staffing needs.
