The unit is staffed with 2 Patient Care Technicians and 1 Unit Secretary. Equipment used includes Alaris pumps, Kangaroo pumps, and computers available in every room. The documentation system utilized is Meditech. Scheduling is self-managed including 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule. There are no on-call requirements. Floating policy prioritizes travelers, then PRN staff. Patient experience focuses on courtesy, respect, and teamwork in patient care. The unit specializes in caring for cardiac and pulmonary patients. Patients typically include those with COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF, and tracheostomy. Monitoring includes cardiac and respiratory assessments every 2-4 hours. Interventions include vital signs every 4 hours and continuous cardiac monitoring. Blood glucose monitoring is performed every 4 hours. Neurological monitoring is conducted at varying frequencies. Procedures performed include oxygen therapy via nasal cannula, BIPAP/CPAP, and AirVo.
