Job Title: Med/Tele/PCU RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days EOW, First to Float Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience, ability to read ECG strips Description: Unit notes include a department focused on Med/Tele RN. Candidates must have PCU experience and be able to read ECG strips. The unit has 32 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 and occasional 5-6 on nights. PCU level care is considered overflow on the unit with a ratio of 1:3. Common diagnoses include adults and geriatrics, cardiac procedures, and COVID-19 patients. Patients may also present with conditions such as pneumonia, sepsis, and general surgical histories related to cardiac issues. Experience as a tele/cardiac RN with PCU background is essential. Epic experience is preferred. First-time travelers are welcome to apply. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, and Lasix. Charge nurses are present on each shift and may take a light load of 2-3 patients. Nurse aides or patient care techs are available on this unit with a goal of a 1:10 ratio. RNs may troubleshoot respiratory equipment such as BiPAP and tracheostomy devices. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own ECG strips. Schedules include 7a-7p shifts and 7p-7a shifts. Rotating shifts do not occur more than weekly, with management scheduling based on unit needs. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend and holiday requirements cover every other holiday. Floating will involve assisting in all areas, including full patient loads in PCU and MS, with some ER holds or boarding as needed. Dress code allows any color scrubs. Unit-specific orientation consists of two shifts, with the first week including two 12-hour shifts for training. The unit primarily focuses on tele/cardiac monitoring. Additional time off requests must be submitted upfront and will not be approved post-submission. There is a cancellation policy of 4 shifts per contract. Charting is conducted using the EPIC system. A BSN is not required. This position operates within an acute care setting. The trauma level is 2.
