Job Title: Med/Tele/PCU RN Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Active RN License Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Required Must-Have: PCU experience and ability to read strips Description: Unit Notes: Department: Med/Tele RN PROFILE REVIEW and MANAGER INTERVIEW required. Must have PCU experience and be able to read strips. The unit has 32 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5, occasionally 5-6 on nights. PCU level care overflow is on the unit with a ratio of 1:3. Common diagnoses and types of patients include adults and geriatrics with conditions such as cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, Covid with BiPAP, and occasional general surgical patients with a heart history. Medical patients often have cardiac history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis. Tele/cardiac RN wanted with PCU experience. Experience with Epic is preferred. First-time travelers are welcomed. RNs are required to titrate drips, including commonly used medications like Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix. Low dose Dopamine may also be used, but Levophed is not required. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift, and the Charge Nurse occasionally takes a light patient load of 2-3 patients. Nurse aides or patient care technicians are available on the unit with a goal ratio of 1:10. RNs are required to troubleshoot RT equipment, including Bipap, trachs, and airvo. Tele/Monitor Technicians are available on the unit, with portable monitors and monitors in the rooms. RNs are required to read and interpret their own strips. Shifts are from 7 AM to 7 PM and 7 PM to 7 AM. Rotating shifts will not occur more than weekly. The manager creates the schedule and will consider blocked scheduling based on unit needs. Weekend requirements are every other week. Holiday requirements are every other year. All areas are included for floating as helping hands, with full patient loads in PCU and medical-surgical areas. Colorful scrubs are acceptable. Additional notes: This is primarily a tele/cardiac unit. There is a radius rule of 50 miles, and candidates cannot be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facility. Requests for days off must be provided upfront, and additional requests will not be approved after submission. Cancellation policy allows for 4 shifts per contract, or 3 shifts if the contract is under 13 weeks. Charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. Active RN license is needed for submission. The care setting is acute. The division is nursing. Shift notes include every other weekend and first to float as needed. Required certifications are ACLS and BLS.
