Job Title: Med/Tele/PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days EOW Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience Ability to read strips Description: This is a Med/Tele/PCU unit with 32 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5, with occasional 5-6 on nights. The unit provides PCU level care overflow with a ratio of 1:3. Common diagnoses include adults and geriatrics, cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, Covid with BiPap, and occasional general surgical patients with a heart history. Medical patients often have a cardiac history, pneumonia, Covid, acute on chronic conditions, and influenza or sepsis. Tele/cardiac nursing experience is preferred, and familiarity with Epic is a plus. First-time travelers are welcome to apply. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix, with low-dose Dopamine. Levo is not used in this setting. A charge nurse is present on each shift and often takes a light load, with 2-3 patients. There are patient care techs on the unit, with a goal ratio of 1:10. RNs are required to troubleshoot equipment such as Bipap, trachs, and airvo. There are tele/monitor techs available on the unit for support. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own strips. Shifts are from 7 AM to 7 PM and 7 PM to 7 AM, with a rotation occurring no more than weekly. The manager creates the schedule, considering blocked schedules based on unit needs. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, and holiday requirements are also every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. RNs may float as needed to provide assistance across various areas. Scrubs of any color may be worn. Additional notes indicate that this is primarily a tele/cardiac unit.
