Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: PCU experience Knowledge of cardiac rhythms and surgical patients Chest tube management Epidural management Description: The unit has 15 beds and 22 staff members, including RNs and Patient Care Technicians. On the day shift, there are 3-4 RNs, 2 Patient Care Technicians, and 1 Clinical Coordinator. On the night shift, there are 3-4 RNs and 1 Patient Care Technician. Patient ratios are typically 4-5 patients per RN. The unit is equipped with cardiac telemetry, chest tubes, and various cardiac drips. Patients include those post-catheterization, post-surgical patients such as open-heart and lung patients, as well as general surgery and post-operative orthopedic patients requiring cardiac monitoring. The electronic medical record system used on this unit is Meditech. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, has strong time management skills, and can adapt to a high turnover of patients. Typical procedures performed on the unit include post-cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, device placements, groin management, and chest tube management. Candidates should be outgoing and willing to go above and beyond for patient care. Floating may occur to ICU to care for PCU-type patients, to PCU, or to medical-surgical areas with a maximum of 5 patients. The dress code consists of navy or white scrubs that can be mixed and matched. Every other weekend or four weekend shifts are required.
