Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Vascular Transplant Duration: 12 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years IMC experience required, Transplant experience required License: Active RN license Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Hard stop - 2 years IMC experience required Transplant experience required Description: Provides post-operative care for vascular, kidney, and liver transplant patients. Performs hemodynamic and neurovascular assessments. Monitors surgical sites for bleeding or infection. Evaluates graft function. Monitors labs, urine output, fluids, and electrolytes. Administers pain control, immunosuppressants, anticoagulation, and IV therapies. Identifies complications such as thrombosis, graft dysfunction, rejection, or infection. Coordinates medication adjustments post-transplant with the healthcare provider. Recognizes drug toxicity and adverse effects. Offers psychosocial support and education on lifestyle adjustments to patients and families. Monitors vital signs, weight, fluid balance, and graft function. Teaches medication adherence and self-administration. Understanding of immunosuppressive agents, pharmacology relevant to transplant patients, and post-transplant health maintenance is essential. Must be comfortable floating within specialty and may float to other units and facilities within scope. Weekend coverage is required, with every third weekend scheduled. Participation in holidays is required as they fall, as scheduled. Clinical skills in acute hospital settings are needed to advance patient care levels. Daily patient census is estimated at 24 with varying patient diagnoses encountered. Interdisciplinary support includes various services such as physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.
