Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: 2+ years of recent PCU experience required License: Valid compact or state nursing license required Certifications: BLS and ACLS required Must-Have: Experience with a similar patient population preferred. Previous charge RN experience preferred. Teaching hospital experience preferred. Description: The unit consists of 22 beds with 16 rooms. The average daily census is 20. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics. Common cases include burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery, urology, gynecology, ENT, and oral/maxillofacial surgeries. Special procedures performed are burn dressings, flap checks, and leech therapy. The shift is 12-hour nights from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM. Working every other or third weekend is required. Floating within the organization is required. Staffing includes interdisciplinary support such as IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation. Patient diagnoses include burns, plastic surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction, flaps, leech therapy, urology, gynecological surgeries, ENT, and oral/maxillofacial surgeries. The unit also involves special procedures like leech therapy and flap checks among others. Key skills required include: Arterial line management Blood product administration Central line care and management Feeding tube care and management Heparin protocols Interpretation of dysrhythmias Isolation precautions and PPE IV insulin protocols Management of dysrhythmias Telemetry monitoring Phlebotomy Starting and maintaining IVs Substance withdrawal management Wound care and wound vacuum management
