Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Experience in PCU Description: Position in PCU with nurse-patient ratios of 1:5. On rare occasions, the ratio may flex to 1:6 and travelers will be expected to take the extra patients. Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments may be required as needed. Eight weekend shifts are required within a six-week schedule period, including a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Floating within scope may be required to meet facility needs. Required skills include cardiac monitoring, emergency response, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and IV therapy management. Experience with medications such as heparin protocols and PCA is necessary. Additional skills include the management of central lines, peripheral lines, and PICC lines. Responsibilities involve administering oxygen, managing chest tubes, and providing respiratory care. Experience with wound care and isolation precautions is essential. Preferred skills include managing cardiac telemetry, tracheostomy care, and orthopedic trauma. The patient population includes adults and geriatrics with various medical diagnoses related to pulmonary, wounds, urology, cardiac, neuro, and renal issues. Daily census includes a maximum of 24 patients with interdisciplinary support available. The unit may require regular floating between departments and facilities as needed. Time off must be pre-approved, and several compliance modules must be completed prior to the start date. Compliance includes training on EMR and other essential skills.
