Job Title: RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU RN Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to pass a skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher Description: RN's will be required to pass a skills exam during orientation. The exam is open book, and all necessary resources will be provided. Failure to achieve a passing score may result in termination. Candidates must not be employed with any facility associated with the organization in the past year. Candidates will be subject to a radius rule of 50 miles. A driver's license is required for verification of the radius rule. Artificial nails are prohibited for patient care staff. Failure to comply with the fingernail policy may lead to termination. The nursing department has a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4. Common diagnoses for patients include heart failure, atrial fibrillation, respiratory distress, and stroke. Nurses are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin. A charge nurse is present on each shift and takes a full patient assignment. Patient care technicians are available with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:10. Registered nurses will be responsible for troubleshooting CPAP and other respiratory equipment. Nurses must read and interpret cardiac monitor strips. Shifts are scheduled cyclically, with weekend requirements of every other weekend. Holiday commitments include one major and one minor holiday per year. Registered nurses may be required to float to the ICU if they have the appropriate experience. Orientation includes one 12-hour shift within the department. The unit is fast-paced with a high number of admits and discharges. Successful nurses in this department exhibit a positive attitude, teamwork, and a patient-oriented approach. Request for time off must be submitted upfront, and no additional requests will be approved after submissions. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts during the assignment duration. The charting system used in this department is EPIC. A BSN is required for this position. Certification in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS is mandatory.
