Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Stepdown Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Competent in Arterial Lines Description: Unit Notes: Candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with this organization. Artificial nails are prohibited in all departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove artificial nails will lead to termination of contract. A driver's license is required at submission. RNs must pass a exam during orientation. The exam is open book on skills learned, and candidates are provided all necessary resources to pass. A minimum score of 90% is required to pass, or candidates will be terminated. Blocked scheduling is not approved unless it's weekends only. A duo needing to share care or the same schedule will not be accepted. If placed on call and then called back in, there is a 30-minute response time required. Department details: The average daily census is 24 patients in a 40-bed unit. Ratios are 1:4-5 both days and nights. Common diagnoses include adult cardiac, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, adult respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure. RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin. There is a Charge Nurse on each shift who also takes an assignment. The unit has nurse aids/patient care techs with a ratio of 1:12. RNs are required to troubleshoot RT equipment, including high flow. RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips. Shifts are scheduled from 0630 to 1830 and 1830 to 0630. Weekend requirements are every other weekend. Holiday requirements include a minimum of two holidays that fall within the contract timeframe. Floating to MedSurg or ICU is required to take PCU acuity patients. The scrub color/dress code is navy blue. A successful nurse on this unit is a team player, flexible, adaptable, and possesses good communication skills. This unit serves different cultural populations. Regular time off should be submitted upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract). Additional requests for time off will not be approved after submissions. The facility can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using EPIC. A BSN is not required. The trauma level is 2. The care setting is acute.
