Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Oncology - PCU Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: PCU work experience Description: This is a mixed acuity unit that cares for both PCU and Med Surg patients. It is a very busy surgical floor. All permanent staff is PCU trained. Staffing ratios aim for 1:4, but can be 1:5. Schedules may vary based on unit needs. Travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period. Changes are not guaranteed and depend on staffing priorities. This unit cares for adult and geriatric patients. Diagnoses include surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastic surgeries. Special procedures include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, and oncologic emergencies. There is a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls. Required skills include BiPAP/CPAP management, cardiac telemetry, chest tube care, and tracheostomy care. The unit features interdisciplinary support including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services. Candidates must have current acute care experience in the specialty they are applying for.
