Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Duration: 16 weeks Shift: Day/Night Rotation Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of high acuity PCU experience preferred License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Must-Have: High acuity PCU patient experience Ability to float within units of equivalent or lower levels of acuity Capable of interpreting dysrhythmias Experience with rapid response teams Description: This position is for a nursing role within a progressive care unit. The unit cares for patients with solid tumors and various oncological conditions. The nurse will engage in high acuity patient care, focusing on infection prevention and patient safety. The schedule allows for self-scheduling requests. During the first week, orientation will be conducted Monday through Friday during the day shift. The second week comprises on-unit orientation with a preceptor for a total of 36 hours. The nurse will be responsible for patient assignments of 1 to 4-5 med-surg telemetry and 1 to 3 for PCU. Pediatric patients are infrequently cared for in this unit. Experience with oncology patients is preferred but not required. The unit is equipped with telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, and PCA pumps. Familiarity with managing central and peripheral lines, blood product administration, and chest tubes is required. The candidate should have experience with IV initiation, phlebotomy, and tracheostomy management. Knowledge of high flow nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management is also needed.
