Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: PCU Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Competence in Arterial Lines Description: Unit operates with a radius rule of 50 miles. Candidates may not be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facility. Artificial nails are prohibited in departments providing patient care. Refusal to remove nails will lead to termination of the contract. A driver's license is required for submission and will be used to determine candidates outside the 50-mile radius. RNs will take an open book exam on skills learned during orientation, given all necessary resources to pass. A score of 90% is required to pass; failure to do so will result in termination. Blocked scheduling will not be approved unless it is weekends only. Duo submissions requiring shared care or similar schedules will not be accepted. If placed on call and then called back in, candidates have 30 minutes to arrive. Department has 40 beds with an average daily census of 24. The nurse-patient ratio is 1:4-5 for both days and nights. Common patient diagnoses include cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, adult respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure. RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin. A charge nurse is present on each shift and takes an assignment. There are nurse aides/patient care techs, with a ratio of 1:12 for duties. RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips. Shifts are from 0630-1830 and 1830-0630. Weekend requirements include every other weekend. Holiday requirements are a minimum of 2 holidays within the contract timeframe. Floating to MedSurg or ICU is required to care for PCU acuity patients. Scrub color/dress code is navy blue. The unit has overhead lifts in half the rooms, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners. Focus on patient experience scores, responsiveness, hospital environment, and communication about medications. Successful nurses are team players, flexible, adaptable, and possess strong communication skills. The unit serves diverse cultural populations. Initial request for time off must be provided upfront; additional requests will not be approved. The facility can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required. Trauma level is 2. The care setting is acute. Division is nursing. Shifts are 12 hours nights. Required certifications include ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS.
