Job Title: Step-Down Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: 2+ years of recent Step-Down experience License: Registered Nurse License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Cardiac monitoring experience - Dysrhythmia interpretation and management - IV start and maintenance experience - Blood product administration experience - Procedural sedation administration and monitoring experience Description: The Step-Down Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in a critical care step-down unit. The nurse will monitor patients who have been stabilized after critical care but still require close observation and treatment. Common diagnoses include Congestive Heart Failure, post-heart catheterization care, respiratory failure requiring BiPAP or CPAP, and cardiac dysrhythmias. Nursing responsibilities include post-vascular procedure monitoring, frequent vital sign checks, and neurovascular assessments. The nurse is expected to administer medications, including emergency medications, and manage cardiac drips with limited titration. Professional skills required include infection prevention, isolation precautions, and phlebotomy. Candidates should have experience with cardiac telemetry and the management of cardiac drips. The position may require the use of advanced medical equipment as well as collaboration with interdisciplinary teams. An understanding of managing neurologic conditions and respiratory therapies is also essential. The unit has a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4-5. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong critical thinking skills and the ability to prioritize patient care effectively.
