Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 16 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ability to titrate medications and read/interpret telemetry Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a stepdown unit. The nursing staff will care for adult patients, typically transferring from the emergency room. Common patient concerns include mixed medical/surgical, cardiac, and stroke diagnoses. Registered Nurses are expected to titrate medications, including heparin, insulins, and cardiac drips. A charge nurse is available on each shift, although they may take on a limited patient assignment at times. Patient care technicians are present on the unit to assist with non-licensed duties. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4. There are no unit secretaries; support staff assists with stocking supplies. The unit has specialty equipment, including code carts and hoyer lifts. All Registered Nurses must be capable of monitoring telemetry. Staff scheduling is structured in six-week periods with specific weekend and holiday requirements. Registered Nurses may float to other areas of the hospital as needed. Dress code is navy blue scrubs. This is a high-flow unit experiencing frequent admissions, discharges, and transfers. The ideal candidate is a positive team player willing to collaborate. The unit provides essential resources for RN skill assessments during orientation. Artificial nails are prohibited for patient care staff. Staff must comply with all policies to maintain their contract.
