Description:
A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective, patient- and family-centered care.
Customer satisfaction and quality outcomes are primary objectives.
The RN assists in maintaining a financially stable unit.
The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education.
This is supported by a Practice Governance framework.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN applies the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care.
The RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
The RN emphasizes patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN is responsible for delivering quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.
Responsibilities:
Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
Demonstrates the ability to make sound, independent decisions.
Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care and revises the plan as indicated.
Collaborates with patients, families, and interdisciplinary services.
Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family.
Evaluation: Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions.
Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs.
This includes care, treatment, and services provided during their stay and at discharge.
Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
Functions as a mentor/preceptor.
Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork.
Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement.
Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
Implements practice changes while complying with regulatory standards.
Participates in the Practice Governance model.
