Job Opportunity – Oncology Progressive Care Registered Nurse – Ohio

Schedule: 12-hour rotating day/night shifts; ratio of 1:3 for PCU patients and 1:4-5 for Med-Surg Telemetry patients; shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs; weekend coverage variable based on unit requirements
Highlights:
- 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to Progressive Care Unit (PCU) level of care
- Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
- High-acuity PCU environment with a small volume of medical-surgical patients; oncology experience preferred but not required
- Epic charting system with comprehensive interdisciplinary support including pharmacy, respiratory services, physical therapy, and rapid response teams
- 72-hour orientation period to ensure successful transition to the unit
- Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention strategies
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- Current acute care experience required (actively working in the last 12 months)
- Active RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
- Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Epic EMR charting experience required
- Nursing education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
- Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed
Essential Clinical Skills:
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias and cardiac monitoring using GE telemetry system
- Port access and management, central line care, PICC line management, and peripheral IV insertion
- Blood product administration and heparin protocols
- PCA pump management and cardiac drip management (titration experience preferred)
- Respiratory support including High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP/CPAP, and tracheostomy management
- Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), feeding tube care, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs) and use of rapid response teams
Preferred Skills:
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
- IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
- Wound care and wound vacuum management
- Arterial line management and surgical drain care
- Phlebotomy skills
Special Equipment:
- GE telemetry monitoring system (B450 monitors)
- Alaris IV pumps and PCA pumps
- Stryker beds and bladder scanners
- Continuous bladder irrigation systems

Note: Pediatric patients are extremely rare on this unit and are typically cared for by permanent staff. Pediatric experience is not required. If you accept a rotating 12-hour day/night contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both depending on department needs.
