Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts (Days/Nights or Night shifts); shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on department needs
Highlights:
- 36-bed Medical Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 dedicated PCU beds
- Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology patients
- High acuity PCU environment with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for Med-Surg Telemetry
- Epic charting system with GE telemetry monitoring
- 72 hours of orientation provided
- Oncology experience preferred but not required – nurses with ICU and PCU backgrounds are well-suited for this role
- Strong focus on infection prevention protocols and patient safety
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of acute care nursing experience (current/active within the last 12 months)
- At least 1 year of PCU experience required
- Active RN license (Compact or Ohio state license required at time of submission)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Nursing education from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Previous travel experience preferred
- Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from manager/director or formal leadership)
Required Clinical Skills:
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias and use of rapid response teams
- Accessing and managing ports, PICC lines, central lines, and peripheral lines
- Blood product administration and feeding tube management
- Management of cardiac drips (no titration), PCA pumps, and heparin protocols
- Chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
- Airway management: CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy care
- IV insertion and maintenance
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
Preferred Clinical Skills:
- Chemotherapy administration and monitoring
- Titration of cardiac and insulin drips; IV insulin protocols
- Arterial line management and phlebotomy
- Wound care and wound vac management
- Surgical drain management
Equipment Used:
GE telemetry system (B450 monitors), Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanners, continuous bladder irrigation systems, and PCA pumps
Additional Information:
- Pediatric patients are extremely rare on this unit and are typically cared for by permanent staff; pediatric experience is NOT required
- Interdisciplinary support includes Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Social Services, Radiology, and Rapid Response Teams
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required
- Weekend shifts are variable based on unit needs
- One pre-approved time off period available
- Former employees eligible after 6 months away from facility; current employees ineligible
Important Compliance Notes:
- Strict compliance deadline of Tuesday prior to start date – no exceptions
- Ohio fingerprinting process must be completed immediately after contract signing
- Candidates outside Ohio but within driving distance must travel to Ohio fingerprinting location as soon as possible
- Local candidates accepted at the same rate
