- Experience in stepdown or ICU nursing with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1
- Experience with tracheostomy and ventilator management
- Ability to titrate drips
Description:
The stepdown care unit provides care for patients with a wide range of medical, neuro, and surgical conditions.
Registered nurses will care for three patients with diagnoses such as COPD, CHF, DM, Sepsis, End Stage Renal Disease, liver failure, pancreatitis, GI bleeds, DKA, and complex pneumonia, among others.
Nursing skills must include managing post-operative patients, patients with tracheostomies, and those requiring bipap or cpap support.
RNs will work in a 21-bed unit, which contains a mix of private and semi-private rooms.
Ratios of 3 patients per nurse are maintained.
Patients will require monitoring and managing various medical conditions, which may involve administering medications and managing medical devices such as PICC lines or arterial lines.
The unit employs patient care technicians and tele/monitor technicians to assist with patient care and monitoring.
RNs are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips, with confirmation from tele technicians.
Nurses will be required to participate in weekend and holiday rotations as part of the scheduling process.
The working environment includes 12-hour shifts with responsibilities shared among team members to ensure optimal patient care.
All RNs are expected to follow departmental policies and procedures, as well as adhere to a drug-free workplace policy by submitting to drug screening.
There is a charge nurse available on each shift, and in circumstances of staffing challenges, may take on patient assignments.
Floating to other units within the same care level may be required depending on facility needs and RN experience.
All staff must adhere to the dress code, which allows for any color scrubs.
Charting will be conducted using the designated electronic health record system.
