Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: PCU Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Telemetry competency Description: PCU RN position on the 4th floor East Wing. Unit has a total of 55 beds. Patient population is primarily adult with rare pediatric cases for patients aged 15 and older. The RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for both day and night shifts. Shifts are 12 hours, alternating between 0630-1830 and 1830-0630. Weekend requirements include working every other weekend. Scrubs are navy blue for RNs and ceil blue for nursing assistants. Nursing assistant support is available on the unit. There will be a charge nurse on duty. The unit is equipped with additional support staff including educators, care managers, social workers, dieticians, and physical and occupational therapists. Common patient diagnoses include cerebrovascular accidents, transient ischemic attacks, shortness of breath, COVID-19, subdural hematomas, and general weakness. Common drips and medications include PCA pumps for pain management, cardizem, and insulin. Required competencies include telemetry. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. IV pumps are Alaris. Specialty equipment available includes mechanical lifts in every other room. Unit challenges include staffing variations. Staff may be required to float to medical-surgical areas based on need. Focus on patient experience includes hourly rounding and responsiveness. Successful candidates will be able to effectively manage daily operations on the unit. The unit has a tight-knit team that actively supports one another.
