Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Stepdown Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Active state license required Certifications: BLS required; ACLS recommended Must-Have: ICU/Intermediate experience with a nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1. Experience with trach and ventilator patients is required. Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Stepdown Care Unit. The unit consists of 20 beds, including 8 private rooms and semi-private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 3 to 1. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, CHF, diabetes, sepsis, renal failure, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions. Experience with neuro, surgical, and cardiac patients is also necessary. The nurse will care for up to three patients. Candidates must have experience with titrating drips. Common titratable drips include Cardene, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent titration vasopressors. A charge nurse is available on each shift, although they may take an assignment if staffing is not ideal. There is a patient care technician per shift who assists with patient care. All patients are on bedside monitors, and tele techs interpret strips; nurses must confirm readings. Shifts are 12 hours from 7 PM to 7 AM. There is a requirement for every other weekend and holiday rotation. Floating may be required to other units depending on staffing needs. Dress code is any color scrubs. Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
