Job Title: Step Down Registered Nurse Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 2 years of previous PCU/Step Down experience required. License: Active KY or compact license required. Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIH required. Must-Have: - Float required within scope of practice. - Every other weekend required. - Blocked scheduling cannot be accommodated. Description: 3 South Step Down unit operates with a patient ratio of 1:4 or 1:5. The unit experiences fluctuation in ratios due to census and call-ins. Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics. The daily census for the unit is approximately 10 patients. The unit has a total of 22 beds available. Interdisciplinary support includes IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, and pharmacy. The nurse will be expected to manage various tasks associated with patient care. These tasks include cardiac telemetry, central line care, medication administration, and post-operative monitoring. The nurse must have the ability to manage and interpret dysrhythmias. Special procedures and equipment used in the unit will vary based on patient needs. Candidates should be prepared to work with minimal traveler pairs, as pairs are not assigned to the same shift or unit. References from one charge nurse or higher and one supervisor must be provided, both completed within the last year. Travelers must accept an 84-hour work schedule over the course of two weeks. All requirements must be met for candidates to be considered for this position.
