Candidates should be able to handle a 6 patient (med-surg) or a 3 patient (stepdown) ratio.
Description:
This is a 29-bed unit that will be stepdown equipped with an opening in the first quarter of 2026.
The nurse-to-patient ratios for stepdown are 3:1 and for the floor, 6:1.
The unit serves both floor and step-down patients based on patient and hospital needs.
A diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses is expected.
RNs will have orders written to titrate drips.
Common titratable and/or set-rate drips include Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, and TPN.
There are charge nurses and house supervisors available 24/7.
Charge RNs will likely take an assignment when the unit first opens, but the goal is to have a free charge RN at all times.
Clinical Associates (CAs) will be present on the unit, maintaining a 1:10 ratio.
CPAP and BiPAP will be seen on both the floor and stepdown.
HiFlow and vents will be present in stepdown; if vent settings need to be adjusted, the patients will be transferred to ICU.
There is a remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring available on the unit.
RNs are not expected to read their own strips.
Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment will be used.
The unit offers 12-hour shifts with block scheduling, but it is not guaranteed.
Agency RN positions will be posted as weekend positions.
Expect to work about half of all recognized holidays.
There is no call or standby requirement.
RNs may be the first to float or be pulled to other units.
Scrub colors consist of any combination of royal blue and white.
Cancellation policy applies: two shifts for a 13-week assignment and one shift for assignments less than 13 weeks.
Charting will be done using the EPIC system.
