Job Title: PCU RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: 1 year of PCU or prior ICU experience Cerner experience Description: Department is a PCU/IMC/Med Surg unit. It has 12 beds plus 4 ICU rooms with an average census of 8 patients. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3-5, with ICU at 1:3, IMC/PCU at 1:3-4, and Med Surge at 1:5. There are 2 RNs in the department at all times. Team nursing is utilized, with RN and LPN caring for a total of 7 patients. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, COVID, and post-operative care for knees and hips. Experience in excellent patient care and documentation is essential. RNs are required to titrate drips, including amiodarone, heparin, levo, cardizem, dobutamine, and pressors. The charge nurse typically takes a small patient assignment and travelers may be asked to step into a charge role. CNA support is available based on patient census. RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips. Flexibility in scheduling is expected, and weekends will be required every 3rd weekend. There will be holiday work required. There may be a call or standby requirement, with a 45-minute response time. Floating to other areas is expected but not mandatory; RNs also have the option to go home if they do not wish to float. Solid color dress code is required. All clinicians must clock in and out during their shifts.
