Travel Nurse RN - Progressive Care Unit - $2,703 per week in Roanoke, VA

Job Title: RN General Medicine PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day 4x12-Hour Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year preferred License: Active Virginia or Compact RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Ventilator experience required Description: The RN will provide care in a General Medicine PCU setting. Shifts consist of 4x12 hour days, from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM. Experience with EPIC charting is required. Weekend shifts may be required. The RN will work with patients who are vent and trach dependent. Common diagnoses include DKA, COPD, and Sepsis. The RN will monitor cardiac rhythms and provide emergency responses. They will administer medications and assist with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration. The RN will be responsible for managing central and peripheral line care. Respiratory support duties include oxygen administration and non-invasive airway management. The RN will activate the Rapid Response and Code team as necessary. Isolation precautions and telemetry settings will be part of daily responsibilities. The patient-to-nurse ratio is typically 1:5, with a goal of 1:4. This is a hybrid unit with PCU and ICU bed configurations. Interdisciplinary support includes therapy services, social services, and pharmacy. Floating to different units within the skillset may be required. This position is not ideal for first-time travelers. The candidate must be willing to work a holiday during the contract period.
