Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Acute care nursing skills and time management. Experience in neuro stepdown is preferable. Strong critical thinking skills. Description: This position is for a progressive care unit with 30 beds. The unit consists of 22 acute care beds and 8 stepdown beds. Patient ratios are 6:1 on the acute care side and 4:1 on the neuro stepdown side. Staffing includes 1 RN Charge overseeing the unit, 1-2 Techs, and a unit secretary. Key equipment used in the acute care area includes vital sign machines, high flow oxygen, chest tubes, suction, and various drips. Common procedures performed on the unit include lumbar puncture and chest tube placement. Documentation is done using a specific electronic system. Weekend shifts are required as part of the scheduling. Experienced nurses may float to other areas after completing the orientation. Patient experience is a priority, with a focus on bedside shift report, personal connection, and daily huddles. Required certifications include BLS for acute care and BLS and ACLS for neuro stepdown. Dress code allows for specific colors on scrub uniforms. A recognition program is in place to acknowledge outstanding contributions of staff.
