Job Title: RN Surgical PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Progressive Care Unit Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Hours Experience: Vent experience required License: Active RN license Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Epic charting experience required Description: POSITION: RN Surgical PCU The surgical progressive care unit functions as a stepdown from general surgical intensive care. The unit specializes in bariatric surgery and provides backup support to the trauma unit. The ratio of patients to nurses is typically 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4. The unit has two beds specifically for chronic trach patients. Nurses are responsible for cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and management. IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care are required clinical skills. Nurses will provide ventilator care for patients with chronic tracheostomies. Medication administration includes cardiac drips but does not require titration. Respiratory support involves using nasal cannulas, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP. Participation in rapid response and code team activation is expected. Knowledge of isolation precautions and telemetry settings is necessary. Telemetry monitoring takes place remotely, with monitors remaining on the unit. Nurses may be required to float within their skill set to other units as needed. The unit has interdisciplinary support from various specialties, including physical therapy and respiratory services. Candidates should be prepared to work one holiday per 13-week contract.
