    Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

    Job Summary

    Join our dedicated team as a Registered Nurse in an Inpatient Mixed Acuity unit located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. This specialized unit is designed to provide comprehensive care for patients across various acuity levels, allowing them to remain in the same bed throughout their stay. Our patient population primarily consists of individuals with cardiac, thoracic, or vascular diagnoses and procedures, often presenting with co-existing conditions such as diabetes, renal, and pulmonary diseases.

    As an integral member of our nursing team, you will be responsible for performing thorough patient assessments, developing and implementing individualized plans of care, and evaluating patient outcomes. The unit is equipped with advanced hemodynamic monitoring capabilities, including EKG, invasive and non-invasive pressure monitoring, and cardiac output monitoring, alongside hospital-wide telemetry.

    You will administer medications and treatments in accordance with current clinical nursing practice, and direct, monitor, and evaluate care delegated to non-licensed personnel. We foster a collaborative environment where RNs work closely with an interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and accurate patient care. New RNs to the unit benefit from generous education and mentorship, with opportunities for professional growth into critical care nursing within the same unit.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
    • Implement and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions and patient outcomes.
    • Administer medications and treatments as ordered by physicians, adhering to current clinical nursing practice standards.
    • Direct, monitor, and evaluate care provided by non-licensed personnel.
    • Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe and accurate delivery of care.
    • Utilize and interpret data from hemodynamic monitoring systems, including EKG, invasive/non-invasive pressure, and cardiac output monitoring.
    • Manage telemetry monitoring for patients across the hospital.
    • Provide specialized nursing care for patients with primary cardiac, thoracic, and vascular diagnoses, as well as related co-morbidities.
    Required Qualifications
    • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Minimum of one (1) year of adult acute care nursing experience, with a preference for cardiology or cardiovascular nursing.
    Skills & Competencies
    • Proficiency in patient assessment, care planning, and evaluation.
    • Competence in medication administration and treatment delivery.
    • Ability to effectively delegate and supervise non-licensed personnel.
    • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration and communication skills.
    • Expertise in hemodynamic monitoring, including EKG, invasive/non-invasive pressure, and cardiac output monitoring.
    • Familiarity with telemetry monitoring systems.
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced acute care setting.
    • Adaptability to varying patient acuities and care needs.

    • Days per Week: 5 days
    • Weekend Rotation: Required, as hospital needs demand.

    Licensing Requirements
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of South Dakota or a compact state license.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of employment.
    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within one (1) year of employment.
