Shifts are 3 days, each lasting 12 hours from 07:00 to 19:30. Nurses will be expected to float among different psychiatric units as necessary. One unit is the least acute, featuring approximately 21 beds. It typically hosts involuntary patients and offers some group programming. The evening staffing ratio is approximately 1:3-4, while night shifts have a ratio of about 1:6-7. Another unit contains 25 beds with a staffing ratio of about 1:3-4. Some programming occurs on this unit, with night staffing ratios of around 1:4-5. The most acute unit has 21 beds focused on observation and stabilization. This unit has minimal programming, with a staffing ratio of approximately 1:2-3 and night shifts around 1:4-5. Patients often suffer from mental illnesses accompanied by violent or assaultive behaviors. They may be in crisis, requiring intensive monitoring and interventions. Many patients are also involuntarily detained. Travelers are expected to float among different psychiatric units. The patient population includes those experiencing sudden psychosis or deterioration in mental status.
