Travel Nurse RN - Psych - $2,291 per week in Bronx, NY

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Adolescent Psychiatry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 34.5 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 1 year in Psychiatric nursing, with some pediatric clinical experience License: Current RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI or PMCS Must-Have: BSN preferred Description: Department focuses on Adolescent Psychiatry. Unit has 27 beds, divided into two sides: Child Side and Adolescent Side. Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:6 during days and nights. Minimum staffing on the floor includes three nurses, with one on each side and a third to float between the two areas. Common diagnoses include ADHD, depression, mood disorders, autism, and some history of substance abuse. Average Length of Stay is approximately 3 weeks, although it can vary significantly. Patients are medically stable, and there is an emphasis on non-physical interventions such as connection and communication. Experience in managing patients with psychiatric needs is necessary, including being considerate and understanding. Physical restraints are seldom used, especially for children, and will be addressed in training. Patient Care Technicians assist by observing patient care and conducting rounds every 15 minutes. Mental Health Aids engage with patients in activities but do not conduct medical procedures. Emergency respiratory therapy is available only in critical situations. No telemetry monitoring is available on the unit. Nurses work 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. shifts. Patient Care Technicians have varied shifts throughout the day and night. Weekend work is required every other weekend, with a holiday commitment as well. Travelers are expected to be flexible with scheduling and may be floated to other units if staffing needs arise. Scrub colors: Nurses wear Royal Blue, while Patient Care Technicians wear Eggplant. New hires receive a specific orientation to the unit and other areas they may float to.
