Job Title: Registered Nurse - Adolescent Psychiatric Profession: RN Specialty: Psychiatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 34.5 hours per week Experience: Minimum 1 year in psychiatric nursing and some pediatric clinical experience. License: Active RN License required. Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CPI or PMCS required prior to start. Must-Have: BSN preferred. Experience with child and adolescent psychiatric populations. Description: Department focuses on adolescent psychiatric care. The unit has 27 beds divided into child and adolescent sections. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:6 for both day and night shifts. At least three nurses are required on the floor during shifts. One nurse must be assigned to each side of the unit with a third nurse covering both areas. Common diagnoses include ADHD, depression, mood disorders, and autism. Average length of stay is around three weeks, with some patients remaining longer. Patients are medically stable and do not require detox or rehabilitation services. Care approaches emphasize connection, communication, and eye contact over physical interaction. Experience with pediatric and psychiatric care is essential. The unit rarely uses physical restraints. Charge nurses assist daily operations and may take patient assignments. Patient care technicians are available to support direct observation and care. Travelers are required to maintain flexibility in scheduling and may float to different units. Weekend and holiday work are mandatory as part of the schedule. The unit does not utilize telemetry or monitor technicians. RNs are responsible for reading EKG strips. No call or standby requirements are present on this unit. Travelers may be expected to float to adult psychiatric settings if necessary. Scrub color for RNs is royal blue, while patient care technicians wear eggplant scrubs.
