Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Pediatric Psychiatric Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 2p-11:30p Hours per Shift: 8.5 hours Experience: Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing required; Pediatric Behavioral Health experience preferred License: State License required Certifications: BLS, MOAB (to be obtained on site) Must-Have: - De-escalation experience - Experience with physical restraints - Comfort with running groups - Proficient in documentation Description: ASAP start needed. Interviews will be simplified, followed by manager approval. Candidates must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed. This is a free-standing acute inpatient facility. Patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared. It is atypical to have lines, drains, tubes, etc. Involuntary and voluntary admissions are standard. Pediatric patients are typically aged 5-18 years old. Adult patients are aged 18+ including geriatric cases. Common pediatric diagnoses include: - Eating Disorders - Depression - Suicidal Ideation - Anxiety - Schizophrenia - Bipolar Disorder - Oppositional Defiant Disorder - Gender Dysphoria Adult patients commonly experience: - Schizophrenia - Major Depressive Disorder - Bipolar Disorder - Eating Disorders - Suicidal Ideation - Anxiety No forensic patients or inmates are present in this facility. The facility utilizes seclusion rooms when necessary. Occasionally, Substance Use Disorder or detoxing patients will be seen, but they must be medically cleared. The role involves providing traditional medical and psychiatric care along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios are as follows: - RN Day: 1 to 5-6 - RN Night: 1 to 13 with resource support - Psych Techs Pediatric Day: 6 - Psych Techs Pediatric Night: 2 - Psych Techs Adult Day: 2 - Psych Techs Adult Night: 2 Support on the unit includes: - Nurse Supervisor available evenings and weekends - Nurse Manager on days - House Administrator available overnight and weekends - Charge nurse may have a patient assignment - Contracted phlebotomist for lab draws - Nurse Practitioner on site until 4:00 PM and on call overnight - Psychiatrist conducts daily rounds and is on call from midnight to 6:00 AM - Occupational Therapist available from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 7 days per week - Security is on site but will not respond to patient escalations. Charting System/Equipment used: Cerner, Pyxis. Floating to other units is required between pediatric and adult patients. A modified self-scheduling approach will be used for traveler shifts. Travelers will sign up for preferred shifts, and the manager/scheduler will ensure coverage. Travelers who do not sign up during the specified time will be assigned vacant shifts automatically. Each traveler is expected to work holidays as part of the rotation. Approval of time off is feasible for up to 7 days, pending coverage. Scrubs of any solid color are expected; they must be professional. During winter months, heavy snow conditions are common. If there is an escalation, a code leader will be designated to assign roles to staff while de-escalating the patient. Debriefing forms must be completed after incidents, and management will round to assist during code situations. MOAB training will be reviewed on site, and travelers should express any need for additional practice in de-escalations. Scenario-based training will be conducted every other week for practice if required.
