Job Summary:
Psychiatric Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position in Louisville, Kentucky. This role involves caring for adolescent patients with high-acuity needs, including those with intellectual disabilities and aggressive behaviors. The RN will provide compassionate, patient-centered care while managing de-escalation techniques and ensuring safety protocols are followed in a dynamic environment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week on the floor, with one shift dedicated to floating, starting on 08/03/2026.
  • Required Qualifications: Kentucky state RN license, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification obtained on site, 6 months of experience in a psychiatric or adolescent care setting.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with de-escalation, physical holds, IM injections, and proactive agitation recognition.
  • Patient Types and Diagnoses: High-acuity adolescents aged 12-18 with intellectual disabilities and aggressive behaviors.
  • Patient Ratios: Desired - 2 RNs on the unit; Minimum - 1 RN on duty; 2-3 Mental Health Technicians (MHTs) desired but not guaranteed.
  • Support within Department: Leadership strongly supports employee safety with flexible operational adaptations; regular rounding from advanced practitioners and behavioral analysts.
  • Support within Facility: Access to therapists, case managers, security team, dedicated code response resources, and 24/7 video monitoring to ensure safety.
  • Technology/Equipment: EMR system Cerner; restraint beds and chairs available; Omnicell medication dispensing system.
  • Floating: Candidates should be comfortable floating to different age groups and units across the facility.
  • Orientation: New employees will undergo a 3-day orientation with three 12-hour shifts, including floating duties.
  • Additional Information: Scrub color is galaxy blue. Free parking is available.
