Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN)

Unit Description

This 30-bed unit provides care for adults aged 18 to 65 with various mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, and dual diagnosis patients who are detoxing while receiving mental health treatment. The unit also accommodates some medically acute patients requiring IV therapies, CPAP, wound care, and diabetic management.

Position Summary

The Adult Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients within a psychiatric setting. This role includes managing medication administration, patient assessments, and collaborating with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer psychotropic medications and monitor patients for side effects.
• Assume the role of charge nurse when required and lead the team effectively.
• Complete admissions and discharges for patients on the unit.
• Provide assessment and care for patients with medical needs, including IV therapy and diabetic management.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in inpatient adult psychiatric care.
• Proficiency in utilizing an automatic medication dispensing system (Omni Cell).
• Skilled in the administration of psychotropic medications and understanding of their side effects.
• Competent in the use of IV pumps and care of diabetic patients.
• Ability to manage a clinician-to-patient ratio of 1 RN to 7 or 8 patients.

Shift and Certification Requirements

• Position involves rotating shifts: Day Rotate (7a-7p, 11a-11p, 7p-7a) and requires working every other weekend.
• Active RN license in Massachusetts is required.
• AHA BLS certification is required.

Additional Information

This position may require floating to different units as needed. The electronic medical record (EMR) system utilized is EPIC.
