Psychiatric Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130–$2,250
- Specialty: Psychiatric/Behavioral Health Registered Nurse

- End Date: January 11, 2027
- Schedule: Three 12-hour day shifts per week, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; 36 hours per week
- Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and every other holiday
- Call: No on-call responsibilities
- Unit Profile: Approximately 22 beds with an average daily census of 13 adult patients
- Scheduling: Block scheduling is not available
- Floating: Willingness to float among nearby facilities within the designated service area based on staffing needs
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Time-Off Requests: Must be submitted with the application; requests after submission cannot be accommodated, and time off is not permitted during the first week
Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience, including specialty experience within the past 12 months
- Active New Jersey or Compact Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification that remains valid for at least 30 days beyond the assignment start date
- Current Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention, de-escalation, behavior management, suicide risk, substance use, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, and trauma-related disorders
- Ability to safely apply physical hold, seclusion, and emergency intervention protocols according to policy
- Ability to complete required pre-employment labs within 48 hours of signing
- Strong communication, sound clinical judgment, and a calm, compassionate approach to patients experiencing behavioral health crises
Psychiatric Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adults in an inpatient behavioral health environment
- Perform psychiatric nursing assessments, monitor patient status, and identify changes in mood, behavior, cognition, and safety risk
- Administer medications, including antianxiety agents, antidepressants, antipsychotics, mood stabilizers, sedatives, and analgesics, as ordered
- Use therapeutic communication, crisis intervention, and evidence-based de-escalation techniques to promote patient and staff safety
- Monitor for suicidal behavior, self-injury, aggression, withdrawal symptoms, medication effects, and other emergent concerns
- Complete blood glucose monitoring, 12-lead EKGs/ECGs, wound care, dressing changes, and other clinically appropriate nursing interventions
- Implement and document safety precautions, voluntary or involuntary commitment procedures, seclusion, and emergency restraint protocols as indicated
- Provide patient and family education, psychoeducation, and support related to treatment plans and recovery goals
- Collaborate with providers, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, unit support staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Accurately document assessments, interventions, medication administration, patient responses, and care plans in Epic
- Float to nearby facilities within the service area when needed while maintaining high standards of psychiatric nursing care
