Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:
- Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered New York State (NYS) RN License held in hand at submission.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum 1+ year of dedicated Psychiatric, Behavioral Health, or Chemical Dependency / Addiction Rehabilitation RN experience.
- Core Certification Required: Active AHA BLS.
- Regulatory & Assessment Competency: Mandatory experience executing Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale (COWS) assessments, alcohol withdrawal monitoring (CIWA), and NYS OASAS Part 820 regulatory documentation.
- On-Call Commitment: Candidate must agree to participate in facility on-call rotations.
Job Summary & Clinical Scope
A facility in Trumansburg, NY is seeking an adaptable, clinically autonomous Psychiatric / Substance Use Disorder Registered Nurse (RN Psych) for a 13-week day contract at the CARS Men’s Facility. Operating within a 60-bed rural residential rehabilitation program for men with substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders, the RN will direct nursing assessments, withdrawal monitoring, medication administration, and OASAS/Medicaid regulatory compliance.
- Substance Use & Withdrawal Assessments: Execute comprehensive admission physical/mental assessments, routine vital signs, continuous risk evaluations, and structured withdrawal assessments (COWS / CIWA) per NYS OASAS Part 820 regulations.
- Medication Management & Narcotic Control: Administer prescribed daily medications and addiction treatment regimens (including MAT support); maintain strict custody, reconciliation, and control of controlled substances.
- Triage & Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Triage emergent medical/psychiatric issues, coordinate care with mid-level providers (PA/NP), Medical Director, and outside hospitals; collaborate daily with counselors and clinical directors.
- Clinical Supervision & Quality Assurance: Oversee direct clinical care provided by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and assist in facility Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities.
