    Key Responsibilities
    • Serve as the surgical first assist during congenital cardiac procedures, performing tasks such as tissue handling, wound closure, and hemostasis under the direct supervision of the operating surgeon
    • Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure the operating room environment is optimized for efficiency, safety, and sterile field integrity
    • Collaborate in preoperative assessment and preparation of patients — both pediatric and adult — undergoing congenital cardiac surgery
    • Support postoperative care through wound management, recovery monitoring, and patient education
    • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds to ensure continuity of care across the care team
    • Partner with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and OR staff to maintain seamless surgical workflows; mentor nursing staff on congenital cardiac procedures and assistive techniques
    Required Qualifications
    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Maine
    • Completion of an accredited RNFA program
    • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
    • Minimum of 5 years of operating room experience, including at least 1–2 years in cardiac surgery
    • Proficiency in first-assist techniques and sterile field management
    Preferred Experience / Skills
    • CNOR certification preferred
    • Demonstrated expertise in congenital cardiac surgery highly preferred
    • Prior travel nursing experience preferred
