Must-Have:
RN must be able to perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and respiratory treatments as ordered.
Manage BiPap/CPAP devices with preprogrammed settings for chronic conditions.
Description:
The average daily census is 10 patients.
The nurse to patient ratio is 1:6 for all shifts.
The unit comprises 12 beds/rooms.
The role involves providing care for patients with pulmonary conditions, cardiac conditions, neurological/cerebrovascular issues, orthopedic recovery, debility, and amputation.
The nurse must have skills in blood glucose monitoring and insulin protocols.
Feeding devices and adaptive equipment knowledge is required, along with feeding tube care and management.
NG tube insertion and management are essential skills.
PEG tube feeding and management must be performed correctly.
Swallowing precautions and thickened liquids administration are necessary.
Foley catheter removal is part of the care provided.
Administration of blood and blood products is required.
Care and management of ports and central line care (PICC lines) are essential aspects of this role.
Starting and maintaining IVs, as well as performing venous blood draws, are crucial responsibilities.
Knowledge of anticoagulation therapy, antiseizure medications, and diuretics is required.
The nurse will work with patients facing cerebrovascular accidents.
Experience with neuromuscular diseases, Parkinson's disease, seizure disorders, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries is necessary.
Assistive devices and mobilization techniques must be utilized effectively.
Prosthesis application and pulse/circulation checks are required.
Suture and staple removal skills are necessary.
Incentive spirometry and oral/nasotracheal suctioning are performed regularly.
Monitoring pulse oximetry and supplemental oxygen delivery is part of the requirements.
Diabetic teaching is essential for patient education.
The nurse must conduct fall risk assessments and implement prevention strategies.
Infection prevention and isolation precautions (including PPE) must be maintained.
The use of lift and transfer devices is essential for safe patient handling.
Understanding national patient safety goals and core measures is expected.
Pain assessment and management must be conducted.
Patient teaching and pressure ulcer assessment/prevention are critical components of care.
The use of restraints and specialty beds may be necessary.
Wound care is a significant responsibility, as well as the use of respiratory nebulizers and CPAP devices.
Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities based on needs.
